Background: email sent to all club members seeking responses
The Southside Camera Club is an organisation that tries to support beginning photographers to learn more about photography and about the camera that they own so that they can use it more effectively and have fun doing it.
We have numerous avenues for achieving this goal. The club meeting on the third Thursday of the month, an outing on a weekend, usually Sunday, for club members who are working, and a weekday outing, often Thursday, for club members who are retired or who are available during a weekday. During Covid we established a Virtual Outing, held on the evening of the first Thursday of the month which has a photographic challenge each month aimed at extending skills. This has continued beyond Covid.
Occasionally we organise weekend outings to the coast or the mountains. These are usually very successful both photographically and socially.
We have an active Portrait Special Interest Group where you can learn and develop portrait taking skills. There is an equally active, and very dedicated group who do night photography. They make newcomers welcome and will help anyone who wants to learn about shooting the milky way and beyond.
The challenge, facing the Outings Group, and the club in general, is to organize interesting meetings and outings that cover interesting topics, go to interesting places and do interesting things.
This survey invites comments on what sort of things would attract your interest to attend a meeting or an outing and equally usefully, what would put you off attending. A sentence, a paragraph or an even longer tome will be greatly valued.
As a thought prompt, but in no way limiting, comments about the following are encouraged:
· Is there something that you want to do or learn about?
· Is there somewhere that you would like to go?
· Is there something that you would particularly like to hear about as a meeting topic?
· Is there an activity that you would like to watch or participate in?
· Do you have an expertise or knowledge that you can share with other club members?
· What level of photographer do you rate yourself (beginner, advanced beginner, intermediate, hard to be humble 😑)?
· Are you happy to go with the flow?
Your comments will get high priority in developing a program for the coming year.
